Left Of The Right Side are a Kent-based band who, having recently found a new vocalist, have returned to their pop-punk roots while adding their trademark progressive twist to their music alongside their massive range of varying and diverse musical influences.
LOTRS started with Shaun Taylor (lead guitar) and Matt Downes (drums) practicing an Oasis cover to play in a school concert in October 2001. After the concert, they decided to form a band to improve as musicians and have fun along the way. Many people were invited to play before a definite line up was decided upon. Matt and Shaun were joined by Gary Pullen, or "Gaz" (rhythm guitar) and Ali Downes (vocals and bass guitar), and they wrote and recorded a few songs, playing gigs and competing in local Battle of the Bands as well as other events.
Ali left LOTRS, and Sara Riley (vocals) joined. With the arrival of Sara came a new seriousness, and LOTRS began to write with their own definitive style, also playing a small number of local gigs. Gaz then left LOTRS after 3 years as he could not dedicate as much time to the band as he previously could, and was replaced by Alex Davidson, who brought with him a new influence upon LOTRS' music. This period saw LOTRS winning various local competitions, playing at many venues and headlining the series of highly successful Pre-Amp gigs.
Throughout the end of 2006 and most of 2007 LOTRS recorded "Don't Look Back" while finishing school, which was finished and released October '07. All four members then began practicing again regularly in 2008, writing new songs and getting the DLB set list to gigging standard, but Sara left the band at the beginning of May to concentrate on other commitments shortly followed by Alex's departure.
Shaun and Matt decided to continue with LOTRS and start from scratch, as they had done so many times before. They met with a number of singers throughout the rest of 2008 and early 2009, during which time Gaz returned to the band as rhythm guitarist. Eventually they met Richard Packman (vocals), and after a couple of practices it was clear that he was the vocalist to take LOTRS on to bigger and better things. LOTRS are currently writing and recording demos while also looking for as many gigs as possible to get their music heard.
